Heroes and role models inspire us to become better people.
And if you're always trying to tear down other people, you're not trying to build yourself up.
No matter who you vote for on this historic occasion, there is one thing to be said of a strong, charismatic leader or role model...
They inspire us with a sense of greatness and push us to achieve great things. It's why we need role models and personal heroes in our everyday lives as well as in our own deep, inner turmoils.
In the Community and our progress through the Game, we're faced with a constant pressure of nerve wracking fear, anxiety, and intimidation. We force ourselves to tackle obstacles that are both real threats in the real world as well as illusionary phantoms that plague our self-esteem.
And no matter how much you read online, no matter how much you try to educate yourself, in the end, it all depends on you putting it ALL on the line. And that's not an easy thing to do when you feel all alone, stuck in the same self-defeating mental loop that keeps on repeating itself in your mind.
Sometimes, what you need, what any of us really need is to see someone- just like yourself- achieve or even ATTEMPT to achieve that one shining moment of glory you thought was difficult if not outright impossible for yourself.
To be able to say to ourselves, despite practical evidence to contrary like negative media stereotypes and whatnot, "If he can do it, so can I."
To be able to look for yourself in someone else's success whether you're a big, chubby, balding Asian man like Johnny Wolf or a short, skinny one like myself, and point out "If they can do it, so can you."
Or a mixed African American president might, just might be President of a United States that has never, ever, had a minority leadership and say, "Yes, we can."
There's a saying that goes something like "Cynicism is what passes for insight in mediocre minds."
So no matter who you vote for, whoever your role model or guru is, try never to be so jaded as to not to believe in success and greatness in the face adversity.
Heroes and role models inspire us to become better people.
And if you're always trying to tear down other people, you're not trying to build yourself up.
